Additional Comments from the Teacher
Teach Chess as a sport, not a board game. Begins with pawns, endgames, then concentrates on mixed Openings. Each session includes 20 minutes of lecture, take home materials for parental help and 30-40 minutes of student play, often times in a tournament style environment, but not including clocks or notation except for advanced classes.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
Twice chess champion of Tennessee, I have been playing chess competitively since 1970. I am a life master. In addition to tutoring private students, I currently teach chess at many of the local schools in the surrounding areas and have been doing so for the past 7 years. Professionally I am a chemical engineer and have been working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the past 20 years. I teach rank beginners but prefer advancing 1400 rated players to the 1900 level. Pinpointing weaknesses in your games from analysis of your score sheets can be a good source of recommendations for improvement.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I am but a student myself of the teaching methods of the best Chess instructors. Boris Kogan and I have had 3 students in common over the years, and he was always gracious to me; to be helpful, compare notes, etc. My correspondence rating is 2033, My U.S.C.F. rating peaked in 1993 at a 1953 rating. As my students progress, I have recruited some area National Masters to come in on certain areas ( I had a master do part of the program at the college). For a copy of my logo "WARRIORS OF THE MIND" It is posted at the Internet site address: http://www.m-tsi.com/fl-ga-chess/aboutjax.htm
