Alphabetical Listings K - Q

Listings by location and specialty are available on the Directory Page. There is also a Summary Showing All Teachers with Name, Location, and Language.

This project is in memory of International Master Boris Kogan.

Information in the directory is free to both teachers and students. Teachers are listed by location (including online and e-mail lessons), by specialty (learning disabled children, team coaching, openings, languages in which lessons are given, etc.), and alphabetically by last name. Duif's Place also includes a chess page for kids, and one for parents of young players.

I'm an average talent who started late in chess and reached my rating's goals. The journey I completed is similar to the one my students face. If you want to break up to USCF 2000, I can relate to your challenge.

I also have extensive experience working with children both as a chess teacher and caseworker.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
: I run elementary school chess clubs, and teach privately students from novice to master level. I believe that tactics are best learned from books and software (and play), but that everything else can be learned much more rapidly from private instruction. I have forty years of experience teaching chess and competing in high level tournaments.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I have formed Kurzdorfer's Chess Service in order to help almost any chess player in the US or Canada improve his or her game. I write a new "Guide to Master Chess" each week and offer a free tournament set and board along with my Basic Chess Course. My small but growing discount store offers low, low prices. Besides offering Private Correspondence Lessons through the US mail or e-mail, I am the official game analyst at the annual USA Junior Chess Olympics and Pennsylvania State Scholastic Championships. I offer this service at your tournament as well. I teach classes in basic and advanced chess at the Chautauqua Institution each Summer. I also lecture, analyze student games, direct tournaments, and play simuls in your area with my workshops as well as doing much the same thing at all three Castle Chess Camp locations. My students have won championships at the state and national levels and big money prizes at national tournaments, and many parents, school teachers, and administrators have praised my teaching ability.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I will gather as much information as possible from the student: games he has played, his ambitions as a chess player, why he likes chess, the amount of available time he can spend on chess, the software he uses, etc. I will thus get a better idea of his student's true strength and potential and a training program will be created to suit his level and needs. It's basically a matter of developing the right kind of relationship between the coach and the student

Additional Comments from the Teacher
My primary teaching technique is to ask a series of questions that are intended to lead the student to realizing a particular concept. This approach imparts a deeper understanding of the game than if the concept were just recited to the student.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I am a 49 year old man, 44 of them being in chess (half professionally : my main profession is physics).Graduated from Tbilisi chess school of olympic reserves, I have a plus score against some players who later become Grandmasters. My major chess achievment is second place at the "Dinamo" youth championship of the USSR in 1967 (first was Anatoly Waiser, now an International Grandmaster). I am still l active in Georgian chess, participating in local events, including Georgian championships.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I have designed a complete system based on Steinitzian principles, incorporating American contributions from Alburt, Byrne, Benko, Rohde, and Benjamin's CHESS LIFE articles, and games. I traveled for years with IM Boris Kogan and have used his wisdom to teach a US Amateur Champion, a 2500 student, and others on the Top 50 List. I have required reading, homework, and a system to help any person improve on their own, with only general guidance after the first dozen or so lessons. I recommend BOOKUP and any good playing program. I have a huge database and can bring anyone into the 21st century. I have beaten most of the top players, Fedorowicz, Rohde, Wolff, Igor Ivanov, Christiansen, Shirazi (4 times), Sagalchik, and Hracek and can help you get higher-rated scalps with aggressive fundamentally sound chess.
