Duif's Place:
International Directory of Chess Teachers
Alphabetical Listings

Listings by location and specialty are available on the Directory Page. There is also a Summary Showing All Teachers with Name, Location, and Language.

This project is in memory of International Master Boris Kogan.

Information in the directory is free to both teachers and students. Teachers are listed by location (including online and e-mail lessons), by specialty (learning disabled children, team coaching, openings, languages in which lessons are given, etc.), and alphabetically by last name. Duif's Place also includes a chess page for kids, and one for parents of young players.

add a new directory listing....update an existing directory listing

(Note: inclusion in the Directory does not represent an endorsement of any kind by Duif or Jade River Designs. This directory is simply being provided as a convenience to chessplayers around the world. All information is provided by the teachers and has not been validated.)

(During 2005 we converted individual directory entries to a format which we hope you will find easier to read. It will also make the pages load a bit faster. -- Duif)

Additional Comments from the Teacher
Lev Alburt, the Grandmaster of Chess Teachers, will maximize your progress in chess. States World Champion Garry Kasparov, describing GM Alburt's COMPREHENSIVE CHESS COURSE, "Grandmaster Lev Alburt, a highly successful chess coach, offers for the first time the once-secret method of Russian chess training."

"As a chess teacher," says three-time US Champion Lev Alburt, "my job is to provide quick and steady improvement for my students by enabling them to use their valuable time to maximum effect." Grandmaster Alburt's students range from players receiving regular instruction to players receiving study advice by telephone. "Most players waste hundreds of hours of valuable time pursuing chess knowledge that does not improve their playing strength. My teaching method is based on giving students what they need, when they need it."

I have been coaching both juniors and adults since 1991. I am a qualified trainer (Dip.in Assessment and Training Systems) and I have utilised my background in education and training (I am a lecturer in International Trade subjects) to develop a training strategy that allows average club players of any age (yes! you don't have to be a junior to improve!) to reveal their weaknesses and improve their positional understanding by 150-250 points over a short period of time!

Lessons consist of going over the student's games, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, then working on eliminating the weaknesses and emphasizing the strengths. Lessons are usually ended with a casual blitz game w/ basic analysis.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
Chess is a big part of my life, and I enjoy passing my love of the game on to other people. Typically, I give a student one to three lessons, identify areas that need improvement, then refer him or her to a full-time instructor well suited to that student's needs. Occasionally, I'll give long-term lessons to students in the ELO 1200-1600 range.

Additional Comments from the Teacher
I am a 27 year old resident of Phoenix, Arizona. I have been playing chess since age 6, teaching for the past two years. I have had two pupils ages 7 & 11, and enjoy teaching 1 on 1 very much. I also believe a good teacher is hard to find, and is rarely the highest rated player.

Am an inveterate chess addict with a good deal of practical experience (in both standard tournament play and coffeehouse blitz) that club players could perhaps benefit from. And, hey, first lesson is free!
